What is the level of acceptance of homosexuality in Chile?

In Chile, homosexuality has been decriminalised and therefore legal since 1999. However, Chile remains, like all South American countries, a conservative country on questions of sexuality. The weight of "machismo" and religion means that LGBT rights are less well accepted than in Western Europe or the United States, for example.

Nevertheless, in most tourist resorts that welcome tourists from all over the world with different cultures and way of life, the staff who supervise you are generally friendly.
